Can AFC Boulder Diagnose and Treat a Fracture?
We are proud to serve such an active community, and we are grateful for the abundance of trails and outdoor experiences in the Boulder community. While being active and getting regular exercise is important, it also increases your risk of injury from time to time.
If you are out and about and accidentally trip or get your foot caught between some rocks as you fall, it could lead to a twisted ankle or something more.
Our AFC Urgent Care Boulder team is here to help you feel better! Read on to learn how we can diagnose potential bone injuries quickly.
What Does a Fracture Feel Like?
Our bones are naturally strong. They need to be in order to protect our organs and provide our bodies with structure every day! Did you know that your bones are also a little flexible? This is to help absorb the impacts of daily life without breaking.
However, intense falls or serious twists can prove to be too much pressure on your bones and they can crack or break completely. A break is usually obvious if there is a physical deformity, but some fractures can be harder to diagnose right away. If the injury site is painful to the touch or movement, swollen or red, come see us for a quick X-ray.
Bones That Fracture Most Commonly
- Wrists
- Ankles
- Hips
- Clavicle (collarbone)
How Is a Fracture Diagnosed?
Our center has a digital X-ray machine on site, and we always have an X-ray tech available to help take the images. Once we bring you back and discuss the particular accident or fall, we can take a few quick pictures with our X-ray machine.
Digital X-rays are similar to traditional X-rays, except that the image is uploaded onto a computer rather than developed on film. This computer image can be frozen, blown up or zoomed in on to get a clear picture of the injury site. This helps us diagnose even the smallest of hairline cracks! If we do notice a fracture, we can discuss treatment options to help ensure your bone heals quickly and efficiently.
Reasons Why AFC Uses Digital X-rays
- Reduced radiation exposure
- Clearer images
- Faster turnaround
- More eco-friendly
